Education Discussion Reflection

These days our attitude towards education is horrible an nobody experiences these examples on a day to day basis like the students. We talked about how children do not have the ability to chose what school they would like to attend. Maybe if we let them decide for themselves, teachers will step up their game in order to attract more students to their school, almost like more business. Then bring in the idea of merit pay so teachers are based on the students test scores. This will create some kind of competitive business which is all about human nature and is totally natural. This way, the better teachers attract more eager kids and make more money. No matter where a kid comes from, nobody is unteachable. The most important and quickest way to fix this everlasting problem is to eliminate tenure. Humans are not perfect and tend to abuse freedom or power. Tenure has been abused by many teachers. My mother works at McAuliffe Elementary and they have let go a few teachers because of budget cuts but never ever because of something they did illegally. It is seriously impossible to terminate a teacher at their position. It takes three years at that school for a teacher to reach tenure. That means they have their job for life after those three years. Teachers that are not unionized, like at charter schools, have less restrictions about what they teach. They also have no tenure but the freedom to do whatever they want. Attitude changes are needed for this reform to happen.
